185 Duplex Planter

Postby international 274 » Sat Sep 28, 2019 7:14 am

I have Duplex Planters for cubs. I have seen one Duplex Planter for sale that was a 184. Now I see two 185 Duplex Planters for sale. I do not know how many years and units of Planters IH made with Duplex Hoppers, but I want to know if they all used the same Plates as the Duplex on the cub? Does any one on this forum know? Thanks.

I think that a quick check of the PLA-5A planter parts catalog in the PDF manuals section should answer your questions.

They made an IH adapter that converted the combination hopper drive to use the duplex hopper. The 184 and 185 planters were only made with Combination hopper drives. So if you see one of those planters with a Duplex hopper it has the adapter. Plates are the same except on the very early horse drawn duplex stuff, something about them was different I can't remember at the moment I think the tabs are different or larger. Hope that answers your question.
