Boring oversized c60?

Postby BigBill » Sat Jul 04, 2020 12:50 am

whats the biggest over size I can go piston wise? I see .060” but nothing bigger. I have an extra block but I hate to use it.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I've seen reports that people bored 0.060" over with no issues. I think IH suggested 0.040" as maximum. And I think I saw that at least one person had sleeves made and installed after boring 0.060" over, just to keep the cylinder walls from being too thin. The C60 was not intended to be sleeved, but a good machine shop can do almost anything.

.060 is the largest I know of. I think it's pretty safe to go .060, I probably wouldn't consider anything larger.

up to .060 is no problem, I had a customer who wanted big low end torque and had the block bored to .0120 and paid a small fortune to have those pistons made for it, he does not use it much so the longevity who knows, cylinders must be paper thin

Tim, that would be a huge investment to have 10hp instead of 9.

My problem is I purchased a int154 not running for $400 assembled. A parts machine I chose for my fel/backhoe project. I removed the head where someone heard a knocking. They honed and rebuilt the engine. The input pulley on the pto shaft was loose and galled the shaft. It wasn’t the engine knocking. I noticed marks in the cylinder wall like it was hit with a chisel. My only options is to bore it oversize or replace the block.

I have an extra block and parts. I hate to use up parts if I can avoid it.

I'd rather bore than replace (and then have to bore the replacement engine)
