Can you test a regulator?

Postby Bob McCarty » Thu Feb 15, 2024 5:26 pm

The Cub in boxes came with a new regulator that is not IH and does not fit anywhere. I can take one off a Cub I crank start but wondered if there is a way to bench test it.

Assuming it is an "A" circuit regulator. If you had some sort of variable voltage source, you could apply increasing voltage to the "GEN" terminal and see what voltage the cut-out points close. Continue to increase voltage to see what voltage the voltage regulator points open.

I leave the details to you for how to connect things and how to produce the variable voltage.
