Postby Dale Finch » Thu Mar 14, 2024 10:29 pm

Has anyone experienced or seen a broken Differential Shaft (left side)?

Here at the LA Cubfest, they found that was the problem with the left final...

I worked with a guy who's Cub had broken the differential shaft. I don't recall what side it was though. It seems to me I've read of other accounts on this site of them breaking.

John Puckett discovered that it is pretty easy to break that shaft if you have a Howard speed reducer:

Broken axles, usually a fault during the manufacturing process such as heat treating or improper composition of the steel.

Broken axles use to be a common event with the 1950 era Fords that I drove.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I was thinking the same thing. If you were careful you could take a long wire, make a small loop on one end, and fish the broken end of the axle out of the punkin thru the housing. I always carried wire and a spare axle or two in the trunk. :D
