Starter test help...

Anyone know of a quick easy way to test the starter on a cub OFF the tractor??.....the tractor does not currently have a battery hooked up....thanks!!

Mount the starter in a vise or some way to secure it. 6 or 12 volt battery and jumper cable to starter lug. Touch other jumper cable to vise.

Vise is because the starter motor has a lot of torque. You need a decent battery because the starter requires 50 to 75 amps.

Starter functions will provide a fair indication of it condition.

If I test it on the tractor would 12v be too much and break s tooth on bendix or flywheel??

No, won't break anything. 6 volt starters work well on 12 volts. Only difference is that they spin faster on 12 volts.
