Magneto oil cup

Postby hpierce » Thu Mar 21, 2024 5:29 pm

The oil cup on my j4 magneto is broken off. Is it possible to replace it with a used one? I tried removing it but doesn't seem to want to budge. Is there a secret to get it out?

I would assume they are a pretty standard cup.

And they’re just pressed in. Try a little Kroil and yank harder. :D
If that doesn’t work tap on the tube where it goes into the casting with a small punch to collapse the tube.

Or even a drill bit sized to grab the lower end. Don't use an electric drill. Just hold it with a pin vice or a pair of Vise Grips.

Thanks everyone for your help. I got the oil cup out with a pair of side cutters.

I answered this in a PM to Harlan, but for others who may be interested, I use a 1/8" piece of cotton clothesline for the wick under the oil cup.
