Ran cub for eight years with out clutch dust cover, plowed 1/2 acer sandy garden ever spring, now the throw out bearing is out and clutch is good. Any thoughts if this caused bearing to go out, was greased often. ordered new clutch assembly with cover. Do I start clutch adjustment with clamp counter clock wise and the adjust?
Thanks

Re: Clutch cover
I'm not sure I understand your question. You'll need to split the tractor to replace the clutch (pressure plate, TOB and disc). The fingers are adjusted after it's attached to the fly wheel.

Re: Clutch cover
I installed clutch myself eight years ago, I was just wondering if anyone though running it with out clutch cover would cause throw out to give way, seventy six now was a little easier back then.
Thanks

Re: Clutch cover
I suppose it could allow more dirt to get on the face of the throwout bearing. But I'm inclined to doubt that it made a huge difference. When you get it out, if you find that the graphite shattered rather than wearing out smoothly, it will suggest the cover didn't matter.

Re: Clutch cover
You can make a cover out of metal (or even wood) just use a piece of cardboard as a template to make a starter copy.
The cover does keep “stuff” from entering the clutch housing so I would go out on a limb saying YES you might have caused premature failure of the bearing by running years without a cover. Lessons learned you have become wiser…..
