Good place to find parts.

Postby Indianacub74 » Tue Mar 26, 2024 6:53 pm

Anyone know tractor salvage or swap meets some good place to go for parts. Around Southern indiana. Online is a great source. But I like seeing the parts and I don't mind driving to neighbor state.

Good morning, “Indy74”… at the bottom of each page, are three sponsors: HAMILTONBOBS, JR TRACTOR SALVAGE, TM Tractor Parts !

TM saved my “bacon” a few years ago when the 1949 Cub’s J4 Magneto failed, two days before a Nor’easter was forecast to dump two feet or more of snow ! He had all the parts in stock, over-nighted them the same day I called; got the CUB back in service before the first snow flake fell !

Good morning to you.
Thank you for the info. I know about those. I think im just looking for an excuse to drive but not break the bank getting there. I like to see parts in my hand. Like salvage yard or swap meets lol or even someone's back yard.

You may want to look at the Tristate Spring swap meet in Portland Indiana the third weekend in May. Several of the Farmallcub forum members attend and camp together.

In addition to the Tri State Spring Swap, consider the Summer show in August. There is a huge swap area, with everything under the at that one. I camp at those events with Steve.

ebay seller 11.rock is located in Walton, Kentucky. Good prices with free shipping on most. 100% positive feedback. I think he is a forum member.

:Dito:

Also, you are less than 3 hours from a great cubfest in Harrison, Ohio...WELL worth attending, and could be a good place for exchange of parts! Danny (from Walton, KY) is just south of Cincinnati, so you could even stop by his place to/from the cubfest and load up!!

Cubarama in Pinckneyville Illinois in September is a fairly good place to find parts. If you post it early enough a vendor could bring what you need so you can look at it.

You should still have my cell #.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I just want to give a plug for JP Tractor Salvage, a sponsor here. Years ago I needed a replacement steering bolster for my Cub. While on vacation we stopped at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mt Pleasant, IA. JP was a vendor there and I purchased a used bolster from him. JP told me that they clean all their parts, run a tap through all of the threaded holes to verify the threads are good and magnaflux the parts to ensure they are free of cracks, then give the parts a coat of red oxide primer to inhibit rust. You won't find that kind of service at most salvage yards.

Don't forget the "big one," the Red Power Roundup:

June 20-23, 2024
Clay County Fairgrounds
800 West 18th Street
Spencer, Iowa 51301

Red Power Roundup moves around from year to year, but tends to be in the Midwest most years. "Letter series" parts seem to dominate the swap meet area because they are the most plentiful. You'll see guys bringing tractor trailer loads of bins filled with torn-down Cubs, As, Bs, Cs, etc..

Understand that you want to lay hands on the parts but buying from JP is the next best thing.
