cub blade confusion

Postby meisnwa1 » Fri Apr 12, 2024 7:59 am

Hi From Greensboro NC - I'm looking at a photo a genuine cub blade that I lifted from the web somewhere. A large spring sticks up from it. As I understand it, this blade can be front mounted or mid-mounted. Here are two other photos that someone in VA is advertising as a farmall front blade. He thinks it will fit a cub. I'm seeing similarities and differences, and I'm not familiar enough to know that I can make it fit my cub, or not. I'm hoping that someone here will recognize exactly the blade that this guy is selling and tell me that No-won't fit a cub, or yes, but..., or it "might could work" with some customizing, or...? Thanks for your time and expertise.

I don't see an "attach" button for photos, so I've linked to them in my google drive. Hopefully anyone can access.

That is a blade for Farmall Super A thru 140. Will not fit your Cub without extensive modification and fabrication of parts. Study the photos in the link below to see the differences. That is the blade you want.

That is much harder to find than the cub blade. I would buy it if it was close to me. The cub blade is 54" that blade is 60"

I would not modify for the cub. One It is too heavy. Second, in my area, it is worth 2 to 4 times what a cub blade goes for.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I could buy this one then ($200) and trade it for a cub blade? Guess it depends on my local market situation. Thanks again. I'll keep looking for the right blade.

Why spend the $200 on this one and then hope you can find someone to trade with. Those odds are slim. I would just save the money and put it towards the right one.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

$200 is a very good price for that blade, IF it is complete. If you decide to go that route, be 100% certain that all the parts and pieces are there from the photos. There is a digital copy of the parts catalog for that blade here on the forum. In the upper left corner of this page, click on Quick Links, then PDF Manuals, then Super A, then Attachment Manuals, then A-60 Blade.

Having said that, if it were me, I would pass on the A-60 blade and continue looking for a complete Cub-54A blade.

EDIT:

On further looking at the photos, I believe there are parts of two blades there. The one with the better paint job appears to be a Cub-54A. You’ll need to determine whether either one or both are complete.

Maybe you can find one up around the Cincinnati, Ohio area...then you would have an excuse to go up at the end of May to the Barnyard Bash!!! :{_}:

OR, if I go and take a trailer with me, I could probably Cub Express one back with me...I'm in Chapel Hill, NC, and would be passing right pass you in Greensboro! You would also be welcome to hitch a ride up with me!! :hattip:

I agree pictures 1 and 2 together look like an A-60. Picture 3 is a Cub-54A. Both look pretty close to complete with the exception that both lack the parts needed for belly mounting (mostly the substitute drawbars). I don't see the boomerang for the Cub blade either.
