Another tractor!

Postby Bb Bob » Tue Apr 23, 2024 7:40 am

Picked this beauty up after an 8 hr return trip on Sunday. Couldn't pass it up for the very low asking price. 1951 with all the options I think, 2 new tires, new battery, the F22 blade attachment, a pair of super duty tire chains, very good sheet metal and grill but hasn't run in over 3 years. the wire harness by the clutch pedal is rubbed thru and shorted out. So next up to get the old b----h running!

Hi,
The Cub looks good in the pictures.
Before running the engine, I would prime the engine oil pump, it can lose it's prime sitting.
Below is a post I wrote on with info about priming the oil pump. My post is part way down the page.

Below is a listing at TM Tractor Parts for a new battery to starter cable for the 6 volt system. You can look at the pics.
http://www.tmtractor.com/new/el/2581fp.htm

The cable is supposed to go up the side of the dash, so it doesn't get hit by the pedal, or someone's foot.
Below is a page from the 1955 Cub operator's manual showing the cable and wiring harness routing, in the middle pic, if you need it.
There is supposed to be 4 clips under the right edge of the hood to hold the cable and wiring harness.

The page below tells what the numbers on the 1st page are.
https://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.cle ... age-39.jpg

There is a 1952 Cub operator's manual at the top of the page at Quick links, then go to PDF Manuals.
The manual has lots of info. The experts on here recommend people read the manual nearest the year of their Cub.
I sent you a PM, you get to it at the top of the page.

Went right thru the tractor the last couple of days, found some minor issues like the carb float stuck but a couple of taps with a wrench sorted that out, some fresh gas and it runs like a clock. very happy with this little tractor! :tractor:

That’s unlikely to be a permanent solution. Plus, damage to the soft metal casting can result. Remove the carb, find the source of the problem and correct it.

Unless it just had some crud from ethanol fuel in it make the needle stick and fresh fuel running through it rinsed it away. I have had plenty of things like that..not necessarily Cubs. Have a lawnmower that if u use to leave the gas on Everytime the ethanol fuel would dry up and weld the needle into the seat
I'd have to take it apart and clean it out and unstick the needle manually. I'd also wipe the crystals out of the bowl. After about twice I got smart and added a fuel cut off too it.
