Touch Control whine? Not?

Postby Jeff M » Sun Mar 19, 2006 7:42 am

In a previous post someone mentioned (I believe it was EZ) that a clean TC screen would result in a quiet-operating unit. My TC whines, noticeably, but works just fine. Having never heard/used another Cub with TC, I figured mine was running/sounding as it should.

Would the cleaning of the screen actually quiet this thing down? If that's the case, I'm all over it...

Jeff, I have noticed differences in the amount of whine in TC systems but even the quiet ones still whine. It's your decision but if it is working OK, I wouldn't mess with it. Especially if you do not have a replacement screen ready because typically they do not hold up well to vigorous cleaning.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Jeff,

The whine I had was coupled with high frequency vibrating of the hyd. tubes. You could feel it trying to do something. The sound was more than a whine, it was kind of a call for help. It went away after I cleaned out that little screen.

My '67 Loboy has a surging going on with the Hyd. unit.

Anybody know what might be causing that? The tractor idling and every once in a while a short "bzzzzztttt" and the rockshaft will actually move a fraction and the engine governor will kick in a short burst.

EZ:

I ain't no pro at hydraulics, but the surging is probably caused by air in the system-- similar to brakes.. bleed it out as per the manual and it should cease. Ellie surged a lot as well -- bled the system -- poof, no more surging.

And Jeff, BD is correct. Ellie also whines -- I think that is the nature of the beast. It is not that bothersome.. but I think the reason we hear it aside from the fact that they are like kids... the engines run quiet compared to other equipment with hydraulics. I listen to my father-in-laws Massey, and it whines too whenever the hydraulics are utilized.. and it is a diesel :!:

Ez, go to the blue ribbon manual on Rudi's server. In the one for the Touch control there is a trouble shooting section. read the section called hiccping or oscillating.

Mine whines like a 2 year old in the candy isle at the grocery store. LOL
What do these things take as far as oil and can you mix it. Mine has a real blood red color fluid in it it does not look like tranny fluid though.

There are other fluids that will work, but I prefer HYTRAN, or the Ultra HYTRAN, which is what they sell now. anything marked MS1209 compliant should work, but since you don't know what is in it, I would not mix them.

Red usually indicates ATF. I'd change it out.
