carb overhaul

Postby bigdaddy » Sat Apr 15, 2006 3:09 pm

well I'm getting closer to putting everything back together. waiting for warmer weather to paint. In reading the the carb overhaul package instructions it says to PRY out the drip hole filler retainer and the drip hole filler.

my question is there are four little tabs that hold in the retainer. I'm afraid of damaging and if i don't damage on removal how do you get it back in over those clips.

thanks and I wait for answer.

The answers should be all here in Lurker Carl's Cub Carb Fixes. If I remember correctly, a little patience and some trial and error worked for me. I too was leary of damage, but if you are careful, all should be well.

thanks rudi. I went through the entire link and really it didn't anything about the drip hole filler.

any suggestions on how to pry it out would be helpful.

bigdaddy,

Go ahead and pry it out using a small drift punch. The replacement plug is an expansion plug. Once you have it back in place take a larger drift punch and give the center of the plug a good whack. After that, use a center punch to re-dimple the old indents on the carb body.

Good advise, but I will throw in my 2 cents...

The IH instructions say to 'stake' it in place, so you may be able to reuse the original stake marks or make your own. It is sortof a weep hole so if it gets flooded there is a drain. Not under pressure or critical, you just dont want it to fall out.
