Throw Out Bearing

Postby jensele » Fri Sep 22, 2006 12:55 pm

I opened the inspection plate and could not see a grease fitting. All I could see was the bearing and the collar around it with the rod connected to the end. Where is the grease fitting? It looks like it has been a long time since it was greased. By the way, I have been reading from the forum for years and it has been a great help. I recently overhauled and straightened my carburator with the forum help. My cub is a 48. Although I have been reading the forum for many years I just now registered. Thank you all of the inspiration and help.

Welcome aboard! The grease fitting should be at the bottom of the bearing. It is possible that someone installed the bearing upside down and it may be on the top. If it is, you ain't gonna have a fun time.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

 Stick your hand up on top of the bearing and see if you can feel the grease fitting. Somebody may have installed the bearing upside down.
Then came Bronson

When you reach into the inspection hole make sure the tractor is not running or someone starts the trctor. It would make for a real bad day or night  for your hand.

If it is upside down, you cnau turn it over without splitting the cub, but it will require some patience.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

You will also need some small hands. It may be easier to buy a grease gun with an adjustable tip.
