Oil Leak

Postby Butch Cassidy » Sun Jul 29, 2007 2:58 pm

:?: Well I had problems with my PTO on mt 49 Farmall Cub and thanks to you folks (and not my dealer) we are back up again. I drained the oil and put in new 80-90W oil. I thought I would put enough in to cover the collar gear (at least a gallon). Now it seems to be leaking out the wheel axles on both sides of the rear end! The flang bolts were loose at the bottom on both sides and after tightening and power washing still seems to leak. Did I put too much oil in! The tractor has been sitting for 12 years, are the seals shot?? Thank you much for comments!

Butch - the transmission and differential holds 3 1/2 pints of fluid. You are way over-full which is what is causing your leakage. There is a level plug on the front left of the tranny case. Remove it and let it drain until it stops running out that plug.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

It's the plug to the right of the casting code in this photo, right below that bump-out.
