Glad you enjoyed it.. That JD still gives me the creaks.... not used to it, take a lot of practice to get used to it. Hmmmm I guess that means, more trips to Cecil's

John, I have the same mailbox. The tractor on top comes with it. I got mine from Tractor Supply.
My Daughter said the tractor was on backwards. I told her I wanted the tractors to come in, not leave.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thank you cecil for hosting a fun event. I learned a number of new things about working on the cubs. Today, I changed the transmission oil in three of the cubs following what I saw yesterday. Two of them looked like butterscotch. Is that a normal color? Next weekend, I will change the oil in the wheel pans following what I saw yesterday.
Thanks again for the great learning session and thanks to everyone for a fun time. I enjoyed being with all of you.

Cecil,
Can I borrow that grille for Oct 5th & 6th at Stonethrow??? I promise to have someone to deliver it back to you when they come up for you Oct. Cubfest
Really, It looks like everyone had a great time as I'm sure they did. I hope to get back up to the NE before too long and when I do I'll look you up for sure

I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

I know it helps to build confidence in the the normal PM tasks if you see it done... One thing my Cubs have taught me is that there isn't anything I can't do, especially with you guys to back me up!
Butterscotch is wrong (water) it should be dark black. But that is pretty typical for a Cub that has been outside some.
See ya'll in October.

Thank you for the advice on the water in the transmission case. I assumed butterscotch wasn't the right color. I never saw anything connected with motors that looked tasty before. Thankfully, they will be dry from now on.

Don't count on them staying dry. Condensation will also add water to cast iron cavities and half filled gas tanks, especially in humid climates when the tractor is exposed to lots of wide temperature swings. Think frigid winter nights followed by sunny days warming the tractor shed.

Okay, more of Ruth's pictures (Yes, I was there, too!)
Here is the main event, Paul Soucy's Lo Boy.
A great thing about these mini Cubfests in the opportunity to just talk "Cub". Here Cecil and Ed Darowsky take advantage of this (more than once!).
Wheels!!! How many wheels does a Cub have? I have no fewer than 24 pictures of the process/battle of taking the tires off these wheels and replacing with Paul's new ones!
The next question is how many Cubbers does it take to remove one tire from a Cub wheel? There were actually 6 but I wasn't quick enough. This shows Scott, Ed, Paul, Cecil and Kit. I think Bob Butterly was in there moments before.
Even the one-armed "winged one" was in there pulling.
Cecil was wielding his mighty hammer. The wheel finally gave in.
We also learned that those little tires are MUCH harder to get off than the big ones.
And we learned that those tubes sure stink!
Cecil even found time to fix Paul's rear light.
Cecil put his new hoist frame that he had recently fabricated to good use to suspend rear of the tractor to mount the new wheels on their axel. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good picture of it in operation, but the chain hoist tells the tale.
Here's Paul guiding one of the wheels back into place.
Scott gets into the finals.
Then re-mounts a front wheel.
Kit loved it when he "had" to turn the Cub around so the hoist could be used on the other end of the tractor! He takes his "seat time" where he can get it!
Meanwhile, in a corner of Cecil's shop, another project is being tackled --- The Zagray Power Unit. Here Kit and Scott are replacing the fan belt. Right pulley width; wrong belt length! Trip to store by Bill Sorrensen and Bill Butterly took care of that.
Bill is replacing the ignition wires on the Power Unit.
Looks as if he's fingered the problem!
Pris is getting the mail from that fabulous new mailbox.
Maybe it has travel brochures to Canada for the first trip in their "Cub Hauler Hauler."
Respectfully Cubmitted,
Ruth Sumner

Great photos and commentary! Thanks Ruth!

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
