Well now, that was easy!!

Postby CTdave » Thu Aug 16, 2007 1:44 pm

In about an hour, I stripped off the cultivators and side dresser off my '59 to make room for the 5' Mott flail mower I bought a few months ago. These cubs are very easy once decides to take a crack at it!. I just went for a test run (mowing) & everything works perfect!. All I had was the mower & several boxes filled with parts.
The cultivators and side dresser are in real nice shape so I'll probably refinish them & put them on my restored '48

Wow, I actually accomplished something today

Well Dave, with your 5' Mott, Rondellh's 6', and Cecil's 4' there won't be much left standing at Cecil's in October.

There were no rent-a-goats this year so the area around and behind the barn has been growing all summer long. I decided to leave it just for the guys with sickle and flail mowers to play in. :)

The implements are pretty easy, once you give them a shot. I put the plow and cultivators on for the first time this year. Helps to have the manuals handy. Next is the planter and sickle mower for me! Its the belly mowers that are a pain, but just because they are heavy, and coincide with cultivating season. That's why we need multiple Cubs :!:

I have to report that I just came in from cutting the back field. I had talked about it here for some time, the field which hasn't been cut in years. Heavy vines and pricker bushes were a little tough at first so I kept the mower all the way up. I'll go back out tomorrow & give it a low cut.
I have had the "looker" (48 restored cub) which I didn't want to mess up so I picked up the '59. I think the "worker" is even more fun than riding around with my kids with everyone waiving. Damn, I love these machines!!!!!!! :D :D

Update #2
What a putz I am!
I forgot to tighten down the bolt on the PTO pulley  . I threw the belt & the pulley must have taken off like a bullet :? I've been searching the field with no luck. However...............when I bought the flail mower, the guy happend to have a spare pulley which he gave me :D I'll be back in action & can't wait to destroy some of Cecil's property soon

Dave,
Don't worry :D You'll find that pulley, when you least ecpect it  like when you put another low cut on that field :!:
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Kodiak's correct.......the mower tines will let you know where the pulley is next time you mow. You won't miss the sound of the metal tines hitting the metal pulley.

Invest some time and keep looking. You knew about where you were when the mower quit. The price of those pulleys and torn up parts "finding" it later is worth the time.

Since the pulley was spinning CCW it most likely clattered off to the left when it hit the ground. It's probably in the crick.
