startup-with radiator off

Postby perk » Tue Sep 18, 2007 8:13 pm

I have had my cub stripped down doing some repair and painting. I have been working on front. Now I need to turn it around in my shed and get to the back for some work. I am reinstalling the mag, gov linkage, plug wires and timing, carb. My question is: Will I get into any kind of trouble running it just long enough to turn it around in the shed without the radiator installed. How long would it take to overheat?
Thanks again, I am learning.

You can run it for a few minutes like that. Turning it around in your shed should be no problem.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Considering some of the pictures that have been posted with radiator casting packed with crud, BD's observation makes sense.

The difference between the pros and the rest of us is that the pros KNOW and the the rest of us are guessing.

Once in a while the Pros have a difference of opinion. The Cub does not weigh very much. I recommend you and your buddy push the Cub to turn it around as much as possible.

Running the engine for a short period of time (really short period of time) without coolant will not hurt it. Just to keep the lawyers off our backs. One must let the engine cool completely down before restarting or putting coolant in the block.

I have an excuse. CRS.

perk:

I am not advocating this, but two people can easily move a Cub around a workshop or workarea, especially if there are parts removed such as rear wheel weights, hood/tank etc.... I have even been known to move Granny around by myself in the shop, but I would not advocate this... it isn't all that smart..

To me, much better than running without coolant IMHO. However BD had been playing with Cubs for a darn sight longer than I have. :!:  :D :D
