You may want to check with Ralph to see if he has a good used engine. Half the price or less.

My engine is also currently in the shop. It will probably be close to what panelbeater paid. Includes boring, grinding crank, new exhaust valve seats, surfacing block/head/manifold, miscellaneous other work, and parts. :(

i paid 1300 at CaseIh for new rods and mains but they also went through the transmission, rearend, pto, clutch housing and replaced all seals and gears as needed. Only thing needed was seals.

We did our own, sort of. $500 for the rebuild parts (pistons, rings, valves, bearings, seals, etc.), and an additional $450 for the machine shop. Crank and rods were ground .010 over, pistons and rings are .020 over, the machine shop installed valves/camshaft for us, and milled head flat. So roughly $1000, and we supplied a fair amount of labor, with no warranty. If your $1200 has any warranty to speak pf, not too bad a deal...

That's why I tell folks my Lo Boy isn't worth restoring... But the engine is only the start of the $$ on that one.

A well build engine will last a few generations.

I'm hoping to as well. Got access to shop and appropriate tools, and we'll supply the labor...just need to get the parts and do it right, I suppose!

I paid just under $1000 for mine last year, so I would say that price is about right. I figured it up, minus parts and machine work the labor was about $200. I would not have built it for that :D
