Belly mower bearings

Postby jbfjr » Sun Dec 02, 2007 9:35 pm

Guys,

I have an IH mower p/n 3142 U-1111, it looks like the one referred to as a "C-2" mower in my manuals. I am in the process of disassembling it for maintenance and re-painting.

How do you remove the lower cone bearing? The blade mounting bar is welded to the bottom of the shaft, and that makes it impossible to get a pulley puller around the inner part of the bearing which is stuck fast to the shaft.

Is there a tool for removing bearings? I've heard of one used on rear axle auto bearings but have never seen or used one.

Thanks,
John F.
