how to tell if woods 42 is for lowboy

Postby ozimmerman » Sat Jan 05, 2008 10:34 am

Hi, I have a 2 mowers that I got for my regular cub. The mounting arms on one did not fit my mule drive (they were much wider, about 26"). So I mounted the one with narrower arms that mounted on the mule drive brackets. I noticed on ralphs site that the woods 42 for lowboy he has advertised also appears to have the wider arms. I made the assumption that my one mower must be for a lowboy. Is this true or is there something else that I need to check to make sure it is for lowboy. I have someone who is interested in buying it and I don't want to have them drive a ways and take it and then not have it be the right thing. Thanks

The arms for the lo-boy mowers run flat against the deck. If the arms angle upward they are for a standard cub with a fast hitch. I'm going to borrow perk's picture to help explain part of the differences.
As you can see from the picture, the 2 main support arms angle upward from the deck surface. If it was a lo-boy deck the arms would be flat against the deck.
Hope this makes sense.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

thank you, that clears it up. The arms are definately not like the picture you posted as they are flat to the deck. Appreciate the help.

The mower on the left is the one in question... However the one on the right I cleaned up and put on my standard cub. It also has the arms that are flat to the deck  . Is it also for lowboy? It seems to work ok on my cub.

Hi OZ

The reason the arms lay flat on a lowboy mower is that their is less room under the tractor and you would not be able to lift the mower much if it was comfigured to fit a std Fcub.

The thing you want to wach for on any mower deck is that the blade is one inch lower on the front of mower compared to the back of the deck when you are at your usuall cutting hight. If the front of the deck is higher than the back when you are cutting you are cutting the grass twice and it used a lot more HP.

You may be able to get close to that with the adjusting holes on the back bracket. As long as you are happy with the mowing looks that is all that is really important.

Does it hurt anything to have loboy deck on regular cub? I think thats what I have on mine and it works like a champ but I don't want to damage anything.

If it cuts well you won't hurt anything. I don't think it would work unless someone modified the mounting brackets though. I could see a lo-boy mower being adapted to a standard cub fairly easily but a standard cub mower would not adapt to a lo-boy without a major re-work due to lack of room.
