FRONT HITCH latest pics

Postby Rick Prentice » Sat Jan 05, 2008 3:25 pm

I had time to work on the front hitch project today. I went to the steel yard and bought all the necessary sizes to put some choices together.
Image

The box hitch is 11" long, the front edge is wrapped with a piece of 3/4x1/8 flatstock to duplicate the real thing. This box comes 2-1/2" square with a 3/16" wall. The bottom tie-down loop is 2" wide x 3/8" thick and completely welded all the way around each ear. I found some nice 7/16"x3" long, grade 8, fine thread bolts and nuts(Fastenal) to replace the shorter originals. These hitches can be made with or without the bottom loop.
Image

The standard flat hitch is now made from 2-1/2"x1/2" flatstock. I placed a 1" drop to still allow the hand crank to swing. By increasing the main flat to 2-1/2" wide, it allows the 2" wide bottom loop to be narrower allowing for a complete weld around each ear. Same with the top brkts. A bead of weld completely around the outside. Also shown with the new grade8 bolts. These can be made with or without the bottom loop.
Image

The last setup is the single tie-down loop. Same tie-down as the ones I made for the side torque tube pads.

Peter, I'm working on that next. I'll probably just offer them in "Plain Steel" too many colors to match all the different shades. I gave up on that long ago, plus it's too hard to ship and not get scratches. I'll post the final figures later in the For Sale forum. I'd like to just get a few out there to see how and what everyone thinks of them.

Thanks,
Rick
