"Bob" Belched

Postby Barnyard » Mon Apr 07, 2008 8:50 pm

I got home last night from a 4X4 swap meet and found the Cub locator squeelin' like crazy. Turns out the guy down the road had his Cub on the market. A quick phone call set the gears in motion for an addition to the barnyard. This'n was a little hard for "Bob" to swallow and I think it gave him a bit of indigestion. Lots of work for this critter, so it may sit till I retire. It's all there, just disassembled (motor stuck). After we discussed the deal on the phone the owner said, "Oh, I forgot to list the mower in the ad, that goes with it".

The mower will have to go sometime this summer though. Too many of them around here.

Bill,

Bob will do just fine. Give him a little time to adjust.

Add a couple more and you will have to take early retirement in order to maintain and use all units. I hope that adding the new one doesn't mean that Waldo will be sent to the back of the barn, never again to be involved in his favorite activity, that of keeping grass trimmed to the desired length. Congrats on the new one. Dan

Dan, Waldo is safe. After all the loving attention showered upon him by forum members at the Texas Tumble I could never move him to the back of the barn. I don’t know if mowing will be in his future, but I know he will serve a useful purpose in the barnyard.

Ron, this is #17. It's going to get tight in that barn if I don't start unloading all the old Jeep stuff soon. I also have a JD 490 planter that has to go. Too much in there right now.

Even if I get the motor unstuck, this Cub is gonna need a block eventually. The guy said on the phone that although the motor was stuck there were no cracks or welds on it. The first thing that jumped out at me was a great big glob of weld on the ear. We pushed it on the trailer and he said it didn't push that hard the day before. It had so much stuff piled around it including an old camper you could tell he hadn't moved it for quit awhile. When I got it home and went to unload it I pulled the tranny top and found it stuck between gears. It rolled a lot easier after that.

Bill:

One thing I have learned when dealing with old tractors is that when they say:
Barnyard wrote:"he said it didn't push that hard the day before"

the day before is a very loosely interpreted term... :big smirk: :big say what: :big give up:

Barnyard,

I might be able to help you unload some of the Jeep stuff...any idea what you are going to get rid of?

Let me know and send me some pictures, and I'll post on our regional and other sites.

Charles, I said that more "tongue-in-cheek. Most of the stuff in there is really for the couple restores I have. Most of the stuff that is left are old rear end housings that nobody wnts anymore.
