Not Cub. Trying To Help A Neighbor

Postby Merlin » Sat Mar 27, 2004 9:53 pm

My neighbor's 1964 IH 140 is broken down in his field and he needs a steering sector shaft. I don't know the part number but I have looked at all the parts sites I can think of and can't find one. Would any of you know of a source to get one? Thanks. I put an ad on YT Tractor.

Merlin,

I find the shaft number as: 70890C1 It should work with either sector gear.

Thanks Jim and George. I looked at Wingers site just now and see the shaft in Jim's picture, but I typed in part number 70890C1 and it said part not found. I'm not sure if his is tapered or not. Do you think the part showed will fit? If so, I will order it.

Wengers shows part number 356549R (which evidently should be R2). They show the same number for the later Super A and the pictured part looks like the right part for the Super A. The C number George quoted probably replaced the R number.

I don't have a Parts Catalog for either the late Super A or the 140, but I am pretty confident the Wengers shaft is the right one.

I always e-mail are call them when I have questions about any of there parts. They respond pretty quick. Some parts places take forever to respond to e-mail but pick up the phone on the 3rd ring.

Had to laugh at that one. He went to our IH dealer and they had the gear and shaft together and wanted $580.00 for both. He went nuclear. I found the one on the Case site and he said "Dang, I don't want to pay more for the shaft that old Nellie's worth. I might have to call the vet. and put her to sleep". We're going to wait until Monday now and call Wingers and talk to them. He's resting a little easier now anyway. Thanks a bunch guys.

P.S. George: I am going to try to get into town next week and get your package to you. Sorry about the delay.

Merlin
