Will 50s hood fit on 66 Ih

Postby redfin » Sat May 17, 2008 6:47 am

I am curious as to whether a 1950s hood and grill would fit onto a 66 Ih without much modification? I know someone here must have done this before.
I know the hood mounts to the radiator supports differently , what eles is different.? Thanks for the help

Not much else, except for the grill and perhaps the dash.

The square hood mounts to the radiator supports using threaded spacers......little more than an inch long or so. The round nose hoods have mounting clips that are offset inward towards the radiator supports that are about the same distance, so they should come up next to the support and a regular bolt is used. If memory serves.....needs to be a short bolt so it doesn't get into the radiator.

The bolster, radiator and side channels were unchanged between the 2 hood styles. As long as the right hardware is used, either hood bolts right on. At the back end, you could have the difference between the long-eared and short-eared dash to deal with.

I have a 50's something hood on my 61'. It was like that when I bought it. If the correct hardware is used, it should fit, like Mr. Becker said.
Good Luck!

Redfin,
Why would you want to put a '50s hood on a '66 I-H cub :?: :?:

Well John thanks for asking.
I have a square front loboy that has a a rebuilt engine , good transmission and finals , bearings etc. and all it needs basically is prepped and painted. I dont really like the square fronts so I may change it to a round front loboy. I know this may stir disapproval from some. However that is my intention. Whether I actually get that far remains to be seen.
