That looks NICE! What kind of hopper do you have? I'm guessing it is a combination hopper (model 174 planter)as I think the single seed hopper(model 172 planter) has a little rib around the top, but I have never seen either of them.

Nice set up. I'll have to use this as a reference when I put mine on. I'm still not sure how or where everything goes even when I look in manuals. real pictures help me more.

I hope you don't mind that I resized it to get the whole picture.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Wow, I think Billy Fussel has one and that is about it on the Forum.
I have a 172 with a Richmond, a Duplex and a POAX hopper. Still looking for a corn&pea setup and a single seed hopper but they are both scarce.

Bob, I'll keep my eye out for you one if you'd like. There is a local guy that deals a lot in old Farmall stuff but doesn't deal on the internet. I personally like the hopper with the domed lid. I believe it is for a 172 also, must just be different year model designs. Anyway, the guy I was refering to, I know has some 172 parts because I was just there a couple of days ago and saw a non worn out planter sword that I want to get from him but it was raining and I knew he didn't want to cut the nuts off of the bolt with his torch like he likes to do. So hopefully it will still be there when i get back home off of the tug boat.

Jerlee,

I have a single seed hopper with both the cotton and corn bottoms. Which do you have? Mine works lke a champ. Very pleased. Only thing, seed plates are not very common. Am always looking for extras. If you find any and don't want them, let me know.

Thanks David, when I first bought my tractor and joined this site, yours was the first pictures of the planter that I ever saw. I knew right then that I had to have one. so, ya see, it's all your fault anyways.

Jerlee,

I don't know how to attach links, but on Rudi's manual page under seed plates on pages 5, 9, and 10 are the type plates my hopper takes. I use the type plate that has the hole drilled in the face of the plate. Some of the numbers are 7933 through 1937. The other bottom I have takes the flat edge drop plates. If the price is right on the edge drop, I might could use some of them. I do want some extra ones of the flat plat that has the holes drilled in the face of the plate, plus any blank plates that may be available. I can drill those to suit me. I want a blank one to drill and try to plant my okra with. Any help would be appreciated. No hurry. We are getting prepared to ride out a hurricane. Hope it is not like Rita a couple of years ago. You can pm me if you want to.

Billy

Jerry,

I emailed you the pages with all the parts for the single seed hopper.

If you ever come across an extra hopper, let me know. Billy, I think you have all the pages but if you want a 9 page pdf with just the single seed hopper parts and plates, PM your email address to me and I'll send it to you.

Bob, my mistake, I do believe that it is the combination hopper. Your right, the single hopper has the ribs at the top. I guess that makes it a 174 and not 172 planter ?

Well, the combination hopper was standard on the 174 and it has a unique hopper drive so I think that is a good bet. You can also mount a Duplex hopper on your drive.

The 172 is more complicated. There is a single drive for the Richmond hopper, which uses the same seed plates yours does and the plate history & heritage goes way back to the 20's. Billy's single seed hopper has a special drive and special plates. There is another drive that is used for the POAX cotton hopper and the Duplex hopper which both have unique plates. The POAX has a corn bottom too. Lots of options. Then there is the cor&pea hopper that is a double stack with peas in one and corn in the other. I have never seen one.

What is interesting is the parts book shows several single seed hopper conversion packages and one of them is just for Dallas, Houston, Amarillo, San Antonio, and OK City.

Your combination hopper has three bottoms. For corn, cotton and peanuts.
