Paint engine block
Is it ok to use the same paint on the block as the rest of the tractor? Just wondering if the heat will cause any problems

The same paint can be used. The only place hot enough to cause paint damage will be the exhaust manifold.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Paint...
I may refer to this when trying to decide what to paint *what color*...
Paint Committee Decisions
I see a lot of pictures of Cubs that show different components being red, white, or even black, like the exhaust manifold - and the parts manuals being in black and white aren't that much of a help...!
Is there any "bible" for color?

The International Harvester Paint Committee decisions are listed on the Wisconsin Historical Society web site. They are considered the final word on color schemes. This is a good site to add to your favorites list.

Well JB, it looks like I'll need to personally inspect your tractor and possibly impound it. Please put it on a trailer and head it toward Ohio.

BigDoggy, I sure hope you are not in a hurry to inspect this nameless Cub o`mine. I still have a million pieces to put back on her/it/him. I figure if I get it done by november that your inspectors license will have expired on term limits and then it wont have to head east.
Then came Bronson

Johnbron,
The correct police never say a word until someone with a black generator
says something like "I restored it to original".
It is usually the same guy with a flap cut into the hood to acess his original alternator on the Cub his Dad bought in 1946.

Johnbron, I solved that problem by putting this sign on Missy when I took her to Red Power .
Hi, my name is Missy, I'm a
1949 CUB
with
Master Control Lever
(hand lift)
and
Gaylott Dirt Scoop
This Cub was refurbished to use, not to look at.
I know there are several things that aren't correct, but it's the way I want it.!
My thanks to Bud Fisher jr. and Bud Fisher sr. for their work on this project when my health prevented me from finishing it.

Ok, so while we're on the subject, what is the official consensus on the color of the generator? (Henry is a 1948). Mine was originally black from the factory so I left it that way. Could this have been a replacement if the color was normally red? Also the manifold. I painted mine completely black although I've seen some people paint them two tone, black for exhaust and intake red. Any thoughts?

If original from IH, the generator would have been painted red with the rest of the tractor. If installed as a dealer add-on, it likely would be black.

Glad to see that the Paint link is starting to get used...
