My cub makes a grinding/growling noise during any forward or backward motion. I think the bearing on driveshaft connected to the pinion gear is the problem. I can get it going and push in the clutch and the noise goes away. This tells me the wheel bearings are okay, right? Any other troubleshooting methods or solutions to isolate the problem componet??

Yep this is the cub I just got back together. I was aware of the bearing problem when I rebuilt the engine, but time and money only allows you to tackle one problem at a time.
I should have paid a little more and got a better tractor to start with, but this little cub is a lot of fun to work on and it's still cheaper than therapy......
