Denny-My early '55 Loboy came to me from the second owner, who was way too cheap to spend money on any new parts period, first owner I didn't know, but he sold it in '62. All of that proves nothing--I think all the hoods of that style had the holes for the McCormick emblems,IH wouldn't have made two different hoods for no good reason.
I'd like to see a real early Loboy sales brochure and a first printing parts book for some verification.
The first early Loboy I saw this way(in Maine a few years ago)looked to have it's original paint and had a fairly low serial#---My first thought was it was a later addition, now I think it was factory.
Hope Jim Becker can shine some light on this for us.
Mike

My guess would be that some of the McCormick emblems were installed at the factory on the early lo-boys until the decision was made to drop them.

I doubt that any McCormick emblems were intentionally installed on Lo-Boys at the factory. I don't have any parts catalogs that have anything different than the 1970 one that Rudi has. Mine is from 1963 and also says
Plate, name ("McCormick") (Farmall Cub).

The only helpful image I found on WHS is labeled 1954 and shows a Lo-Boy with no emblem.

Have to agree with Jim on both points. While chatting with Jeff about his 55 Lo-Boy, that is what we finally determined after checking the parts catalogs and brochures. I found the McCormick emblems called out in the Parts Catalog above the Farmall Cub SS emblems but nada for the Lo-Boy as the Lo-Boy's main emblem is International. 2 extra holes in a Lo-Boy hood it seems that aren't from the beginning and have nothing to do with oiling the genny.

That doesn't mean that someone in the factory didn't install them inadvertantly.

That is why I used the word "intentionally" in my comment. However, I have seen quite a few where the owner finally admited seeing the empty holes and added the emblem. Never seen one installed that verifiably was installed at the factory. Go with the odds.

Toby (Toaster802) had said he had the two holes in his hood. After exchanging a couple emails with him tonight we found that, yes indeed, he does have two holes in his hood. However they look like this.

My only guess is someone drilled one hole for the generator and who knows what the other was for.

Yep! I said the same thing not long after starting this thread and there has been no evinnece to suggest otherwise. Of the few that have them I have to think they were added later on, either by the dealer or by the owner.

Who would of thought that conversation at the Barnyard Bash would have started this thread? Well, after 50+ years a few hoods could have gotten changed and a few (but I dout many) dealers could have punched holes, but my guy feeling is '55's came off the line without oil holes.
