I put all 4 new studs in and found I have a small drip of coolant off the far rear stud. So pulled everything apart and once manifold was off I unscrewed 2 of them by hand! I had a neighbor stop over the night I was putting everything back together and he jumped in and bolted the manifold back on while I was doing another job and when I noticed what was going on he was dang near done. I asked if he put anti seeze on the studs before and what he used to tighten down the studs. And of course answer was no anti seeze and nothing to tighten new studs down.... treid to brush it off... figured give it a shot and see what happens. I think he may of had one to many on the walk over, and I noticed after he left, the beverage supply in my garage fridge was lower!
So does everone use anti seeze on new studs or possibly a high temp RTV for a better seal? Also anyone using anything special to tighten the studs down in the block?
Everyone on here has some grat advice so figured I would throw it out there before I re-assemble tonight.
Thanks!

Re: Exhaust manifold studs
Use anti-seize and use double nuts to tighten the stud (making a jam-nut out of them).

Re: Exhaust manifold studs
The studs are listed with the crankcase as part number 351 678 R1. Maybe someone can cross that number?

Re: Exhaust manifold studs
I have had to replace a stud a time or two, and just took the old one to local auto parts store and they matched it. To reinstall them I put pipe dope on the threads, and double nutted it to screw it in. I then used high temperature anti-seize on the threads for the nut.
