More of Kirk's cubs.

Postby Bigdog » Sat Feb 19, 2005 10:00 am

Kirk sent some more pics. The first is the trailer load of cubs, the others are of the lo-boy with the speed reducers.

BD:

That is one impressive load of Cubs :!: :D

That Lo-Boy is a beautiful tractor. I hope Kirk keeps it. Maybe he can talk his wife into keeping it in the family, especially if he promises to give it to her :?:  :!:

Darn nice acquisition!

Rudi, the lo-boy was sold in a separate auction. Kirk did not buy it. But several on the forum saw it on e-bay and noticed the oddities such as dual speed reducers etc. Kirk was able to find out that it was purchased originally by a municipality for mowing. He was lucky in that it was still there when he picked up his cubs and he was able to get some pictures.

That Lo-Boy is totally disorienting to me! I have one of the same era, but the final drives are facing the other way with the pans forward. Is it the nature of the reducers or the industrial designation that turns things 180 degrees?

That is exactly like the ones I saw this spring at a auction, With 2 reducers. That woul have to make them crawl. Some had one piece front axels with big tires.

Bigdog,

Got a question for you. On Kirk's pictures 2,3 and 4 on the left hand axel housing it appears there is some kind of spacer there. What exacly am I seeing here. My LoBoy don't have this, it also looks like there might be some kind of lever there too. What is this, or am I seeing things?

John, that is a speed reducer. There is actually one on both axles on that cub. What Kirk was able to find out is that that particular cub was ordered by a municipality for mowing. It was spec'ed by them to meet their needs. The double speed reducers will make it a really slow mover.

Thanks Bigdog,

I was wondering if it may have been something like that, one thing really nice about the forum, someone will always come up with the correct answer. :)

Hey would be nice just having a set of these gear/speed reducers, you could the rear wheels out even wider. I could see this tractor may have been used on something like a golf course.

Thanks Bigdog and it looks like Kirk will have a nice tractor, once completed.

I've been trying for years to find one of the reducers to slow my tractor down when mowing in the heavy growth we get in the barn lot, or along the road.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
