Fast Hitch Plug

Postby Arizona Mike » Fri Mar 25, 2005 4:36 pm

The plug on the fast hitch in missing on the '59 :o The link rod is bet out too.

I have found a good new link rod that is bent correct. The one on the Cub now is all bowed out from being over stressed. The bent one works ok with a flat washer and cotter holding it to the back rockshaft in the large oval shaped hole, but it looks like hell.

Don't want to bend the new link rod. Should I get a plug made ? :?: All I'm lifting now is the Woods deck, but will be using the platform carrier with heavier stuff later this spring :?

Also the PO had the adjustment nut on the back of the rod set all the way down so there was no room for trialing equip. to raise up without stressing the fast hitch and link rod...Could this be why the rod was bent?

Happy Easter.

Thanks

Mike

Mike drill it out and put in a bushing. If it wears out in the next 50 years some one else can put in another bushing.

Mike,

Have you checked with Case/IH to see if part number 520122R1 is still available?

Sounds like a good part for some enterprising machinist out there to produce. Hint, hint, hint. :D

Do you think your link got bent up instead of pulled. Sounds like the PO had the locking collar set tight. If you try and plow or use another implement with the collar locked it will bend the link up. Mine is bent the other way like it was streched, I think from too much weight. The hitch should be allowed to float so if the plow hits something hard it will bump up.

I had this one made when I had access to the model shop at the company that I worked for way back when.

Thank you for the drawing Peter, and thanks to everyone else for the input.

This forum is the absolute very best folks around. Two forum members have volunteered that they can make these. The drawing is the real iceing on the cake...Thanks again Peter.

NOW..One more question on this:

Why is the bushing there in the first place :?: Why not a hole in the rockshaft that just fits the link rod   :?:

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

I can quickly think of three reasons. So it can be assembled, to increase the contact area to limit wear, and to allow replacement when wear does occur.

Dan, those items on the "For Sale and Wanted Forum" go away in a couple weeks..I originally posted up a "Wanted" for this item..actually a bushing..back then.

George. thanks...but why do you suppose the hole in the bushing is drilled off center :?:

Mike,

I don't have a fast hitch to look at, so I don't really know.
