1972 Cub - Serial plate paint removal

Postby Tezell » Wed May 02, 2012 8:39 am

I have been working on a friends 72 model Cub.

It has been sitting outside, uncovered for 4 or 5 years and would not start.

I have adjusted the valves, throttle and choke linkage, cleaned the carburator, unstuck the hyrdraulics, replaced the points, condenser, and rotor cap, installed a new battery, changed it from a generator to the 1 wire alternator using Boss Hogg's and Dale Shaw's converstion method(also used one of Clint's brackets), repaired the lights, and pressure washed it.

Someone has painted over the serial number plate.

My question is...is there an easy way to remove this paint without damaging the plate??

Here is a link to the tractor running:

You can strip the paint off the tag and use a new serial # tag overlay, here is the link to them

Harold I am trying to get it to crank when I rub the key....you know that saves the starter!

Mr. Roy I learned most of what I know in a nice red barn on State Farm Road just south of Snead's Florida....first house on the left. :D :D
