Axle UNSTUCK!

FINALLY....



Since my Steelers were doing REALLY poorly yesterday, I decided that it was time to take my aggression out on the front Axle on Merlin. Used Cecil's method of a long bar in place of the spindle on the knee. Come-along attached via a strap on the top end of the bar. Put some strong pull rearward and rapped on the bar near the top of the knee. Started moving FINALLY. It is broken free now, as you can see it is almost two holes out. I am going to take this all the way out tonight and clean up the inside of the tube as well as the outside of the tube.

I agree with everyone else on the forum that this was the WORST of all of the jobs I have had to do on this tractor and am GLAD that we are back on the path to getting it back together again! Thanks to birddog, Eugene, BusDriver, Dale and everyone else who has given me advice and moral support in getting this taken care of!

Way to go Mike. I cleaned out my axle tube with a cylinder hone with some old stones. It sure is nice to change axle settings in minutes, not hours or days.

Good job Mike, and your welcome. I just wish we could have gotten it the first time we tried. I hope I don't put the curse on you, but do you remember where you put the original pin from the adjustment hole. I know that the last time I saw Merlin you still had a smaller diameter pin in.

Mark... I have the pin and clamp in my toolbox...someplace...

Bob, thanks to Mark's tool, I think I can get it done now! Just bring the tractor with you when you want to unstick it!
