1. Turn engine to top dead center on #1 cylinder before removing mag.
2. Remove cap and verify rotor is pointing to #1 tower on cap.
3. Verify sparkplug wire goes from #1 tower on cap to #1 plug.
If 2 and 3 are true, remove mag and replace points. (set at .013")
If 2 and 3 are not true, it means a previous owner has done some creative juggling.
If you remove the rotor, remember it must be timed to the mag when you reinstall it.
4. Go to How To Forum and read the How to time a mag sections.
Hope this gets you started.

Don't forget to put a dab of grease on the rubbing block on the points.

First thing I did was search How to, And the archives,found a how to on dist. with pics.Just thought I would ask for tips on J4 magneto.
I found out they are the same, and pull the mag. was the easy way. Thanks for the tips and help.
