Starter lever rod thing....

Postby jmh » Tue May 24, 2005 10:44 pm

I have noticed some Cubs have a long lever between the rod and starter switch. My Cub has the rod going right to the starter. Was the long lever an option or on what year did it first appear? Thanks, jmh

I had a 49 with the long thingy and a 50 with a shorty. I have no idea for sure when that changed for sure.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

The long lever first appeared in 1947.

It was used 501-128798. The short was used 128799-22440 and Lo-Boy 501-18700. Neither were used after those numbers.

Thanks for the reply Jim. You have any idea why they went to the short lever? Seems the longer would be easier to pull. Cost of materials? jmh

The switch changed at the same time. It was probably for parts comonality with other models.
