RATS!!! RED GNATS!!!

Postby johnbron » Fri May 27, 2005 11:36 am

My Cub hood has been sitting all winter prepared for painting when warm weather arrived. Well its been in the 90°s the last few days so I been watching for that perfect wind-less morning to put the red to it. This morning was perfect so spray-away I did. It seems the Gnats & other small flying critters were attracted to that new shine`y red surface. I did not see Bug-1 until shortly after I started spraying and then it was to late to stop so this paint job is going to have a little extra pigment in it. ["HUMBUG"]. :o

B.D., Some of them were green but I think they are of the Chameleon species.

I am having picture capture problems this morning so I will post this URL.

I thought they only liked Federal Yellow, didn't know they liked red too. They will get in the yellow as it comes out of the gun I believe. I have learned to leave them alone and they come off easier, and leave a less noticeable spot, if you let the paint dry before removing the bugs. Course you can always claim the bugs came from hauling the tractor down the highway on the trailer

Leave 'em alone and let the paint dry. They can be picked off and the spots color sanded and buffed out.

I definately left them alone to snooze in there sticky mire. I knew that it would make a big mess if I messed with them on wet paint. I dont think I will have to sand any spots as they will probably wipe off with wax or water with very little trace of there existance ever being there. "We shall see in a day or 10.

Here's "Country's" Tip-Of-The-Day:

Next time try using a Federal Yellow Knat Attention Diverter :l...Consume 1 12 oz. can of your favorite beer (DO NOT BREAK OFF THE POP TOP)...use pop top to tie a string to...hang just outa range of your Cub Hood...Spray the can FEDERAL YELLOW...THEN... Go Ahead & Paint your Cub Hood RED.

JOHN DEERE GREEN will also work too (but, you have to paint a BIG, GREEN HEART on a local water tower) then drag your Cub hood under the water tower BEFORE you can paint it!

(Special THANKS to Paul Bell & Joe Diffey) :D

I was painting the fenders and hood support in the garage yesterday and the bugs found it!... And I only had the door cracked a little! Dang Federal Yellow!
I think the bugs are easier to deal with than bringing the garage up 50 degrees in the winter.
Still counts as 'coverage', but sure is disappointing to have the insects rough up your work!

I spelled it wrong. Matson mat was used for tempory air strips in WWII. It was aperforated steel.
