The easiest way to do the finals, IMO, is to drop the pans, drain and clean them. Scrape the old gasket off the pans and castings. Straighten any dimples in the pan flanges. Adhere the new gasket to the pan with Indian Head Shellac and let it set up. Fill the pans to one inch from the top with the gear lube mentioned above. Coat the top of the gasket with Indian Head and carefully lift the pan in place and reinstall the bolts. It's helpful to have assistance with the last step, but not impossible to do by yourself. Let the Indian Head cure well before you move the tractor.

Alright thanks for the info. Good idea flushing it I'm sure. When I did an oil/filter change I was really surprised at how much crap was in the filter housing. Looked like mud in the bottom. I'm sure none of the fluids have ever been changed. Whats involved in draining and refill on the finals, I guess I have never looked them over. Too cold and snowy to think about it today. We are supposed to get another 4"-6" tonight. This is unusual for Oregon. They say it's been like 10 years since we have had this much snow. It's pretty, but I have had enough to suit me. Looks like I will get to plow again though.

In October of 2012 we were at Crater Lake in a snow storm. Asked the Park Ranger what the average annual snowfall was, his response "540 inches." Yikes!!!! That is 45 feet. Ouch. A bit more than a Cub could handle. I'm glad you don't get that kind of snowfall in your part of Oregon.

Bill, Don, and Boss, Thanks for the drain/fill finals process. Well we got our additional snow. Little Cub was fine this morning, didn't refreeze. Starting to warm up a little. I am glad we don't get snow like southern Oregon, Creator Lake gets. We usually only get a little every year. I'm about 500 ft. above sea level, so most of the time it's just the never ending winter rain we get here. But we got nailed this time around with our second or third "Artic Blast" that come down from Alaska/Canada. Usually they miss us and come down East of the Cascade Mt. range over Montana,Idaho,and the Dakotas. You wouldn't believe how just 3/4 in. of snow around here shuts us down. People just don't know what their doing here when it snows. I have a clue, as I am retired now but owned and operated a long haul semi biz. for 39 yrs., and ran West to East and back every week. Crossing the Divide, and dealing with the upper mid-west. I have seen some Winter weather! Anyway, thank you all again. I sure is nice to have such a vast knowledge of help here for the asking. Peter
