For you 100 Spreader Owners and Everyone else

Postby farmallcub49 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 9:24 pm

Over on one of the Model T Forums, a friend of mine posted a link to a video of a 4th of July parade in 1942. He posted it to show his Model T, but while watching it something caught my eye and I thought I would share. It is a little over a minute into the film. There is also a crazy orchestra being pulled by Big Red (at the time). Check it out.

I wonder if that was a local politician taking that ride! The whole parade reminded of a Laurel and Hardy silent movie. Looked like a lot of slapstick going on there.

I like the donkey-drawn wagon. I tried to do that with my untrained pygmy goat when I was a kid with disastrous results.

Interesting. When I did some research on the decals, I found one of either two combinations:

1) The rectangular "McCormick-Deering" name on a black background with gold trim and the "No. 100" black letters, or
2) The modern "IH McCormick" name on white background with a white "100" inside a white circle.

It appears from this video that parts of both #1 and #2 were used.

Thanks for sharing.

People don't have that much fun in parades anymore. I think most of them are not willing to poke fun at themselves.

Funny... I watched the video and thought the same thing as everyone else who has posted prior to me. What happened to "slapstick"... what happened to "funnin"??

What a fitting wagon for a politician... a poop slinger!!!

That is neat. I don't know if I would have dressed up with that much paint of mask here on the 4th, I'd probably pass out form the heat. Indeed I doubt you would see a politician in a spreader today.

Here is a link to a post I did on how my sister did ours up for the Christmas parade a 2 years ago. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=82552

And as I was talking in my post about one I have, that seams painted differently that others, check out the rims on the video, they are blue, as our parts one. I didn't think I was crazy :),... er wait may I is :?

I just put a red circle around Johnsburg MN in order to avoid it if I'm ever in the area.

If you ever wondered why cultivision was so popular, look at what farmers were using in 1942. At times 1:48 -1:50 and again at 4:00 - 4:03 there is a Model T (or are T's) converted to a cultivating tractor (s). Nice film to see. I imagine most of the parade vehicles were soon to be melted for the war effort. Most of the cars the viewers drove to see the parade and parked on the route are parade worthy now. I used to take a T to about one parade a year -- never took the cub. Perhaps it's time to reconsider. If I ever get around to making a Wigle Hoe frame, I could do the front wheel of the ground trick.

I also liked the "Clown Merry-Go-Round" in the film. You'd never have such a beast in a parade in today's world with all of the litigation that is out there now! Nice safety equipment!
