Oil Pan Removal.

Up until yesterday I thought most of the little cub tractor was sort of well thought out the way it was put together and fairly simple to work on.
I have a small oil leak around the pan gasket from what looks like being way over tight. The gasket is squished out from between the pan and the block. At some point whoever tried to glop on some sort of sealer to stop the leak.
I figured I would put on a new gasket. Then I see that one bolt at the far front left is covered by the front plow hanger assembly and all the bolts at the rear seem to be inside the bell housing and covered by a plate. Now I see why whoever smeared on a pile of glop to slow the leak.

1/4 inch drive flexable drive socket will get the rear bolts, after removing the plate. If an implement is in the way, you may have to loosen and move the offending part, or remove it.

It is not that bad to remove. After you get it off and cleaned up glue the gasket back to the pan with some silicone...I prefer the black stuff. Make sure you cirle the corner bolt holes with a little extra glue. They tend to leak at the corners. Good luck.

Also check the pan edges because someone obviously overtightened it and warped the edges.

Another option for gasket installation to hold it in place: use dental floss or other small thread to tie the gasket to the pan at the bolt holes. Allows for a little movement if needed and the thread will compress into the gasket without leaking.
