Re: Database Update 19 Jan 2015
Oops! I did mix some numbers up...that's what I get for writing them on a business card, then trying to put them in the Database order! I made some changes in red on the original post.
Tractor SN: 142038
And here is the Engine SN:
(Forum apparently likes it upside down! Not sure how to turn it right side up, but standing on your head is good for you!!)
Next time I am out at the farm, I will check the flat where the Engine SN is, to make sure it is scraped of paint before the "FCUBM" to see if there is a U, but it does LOOK like it is clean all the way to the rough part of the casting, with no U.
PS Is it new that you can edit a post AFTER it has been added to? Seems like I couldn't before. I like it.

With that engine SN, can you check the engine PN and cast code again?

Will do! And I will take my inspection mirror and flashlight with me! Should be able to get it this weekend, including the missing bolster info. The Clutch housing number is under the battery cable clamp, and that is too much of a bear to remove just for the month and day!!

Re: Database Update 19 Jan 2015
I wouldn't expect a "U" in front of the "F" of the engine number. How about another digit or two after the "3217"? The combination of numbers you are finding on the block don't make sense. That is why Raymond is asking you to recheck everything on the engine block.

Here is another photo...no numbers after the 3217 that I can see. I will get the casting date and get back. I agree...not enough numbers.

Re: Database Update 19 Jan 2015
Went out today, and with mirror and flashlight in hand, I looked for the casting date on the cub engine. the date is VERY small, and not very sharp. I think it is 8-8-O or Q. See what you think:
Think this came from a power unit?
Also, The bolster cast date (I believe) is 1-1-W, but not positive!

Re: Database Update 19 Jan 2015
An R8 block can't be a Q, could be an O (1968).

That's not bad...an "old" '51 cub with a "young" '68 engine!! Better raise the price I'm asking for it!!

I agree, but the stamped SN is still perplexing. Dale could you get a better pic of the SN to include the whole boss? It should not be that short (4 digits) with the FCUB prefix.

Hi Raymond
I wanted to let you know about the Cub we have been restoring and almost finished.
The ser HA 111774
casting numbers
eng 4-7-T
Head 4-7-T
rt Brake housing 4-25- T
lt Brake housing 3-28-T
we bought the Cub back in the mid 1970's from a trailer camper manufacturer in here in Longmont, Co that closed down.
We have had in on the farm and used to use it some for pulling a small trailer and using the little sickle bar for cleaning up.
I am not sure why but it was parked out back until about a year ago when we took it to the shop and started the restoration.
When we were getting it put on the trailer we noticed that there was an old H back there also. Last summer for kicks we cleaned the carb and tank, it started right up. Dad said the last time he remembered that H being used was about 35 years.
Thank you
Ivan

Hi! I just joined. I've been trying to add my tractor to the Cub Registry but keep getting "@Query Add Failure" when I hit submit.
My Tractor serial number is 1669 J
and the engine block is FCUB M198806

Re: Database Update 19 Jan 2015
Ed, there are basically two different databases. To ad to this database you simply PM your info to Raymond Durbin and he will add it.
There is also the forum registry which I believe you refer to. I may be wrong, but you may have to wait until you have 4 or five posts befor you can access some areas of the forum.
Welcome to the group, I am on the other side of Cincinnati in Harrison. You might want to attend our CubFest in Indianapolis this Saturday or the CubFest in May in Harrison, www.barnyardbash.com

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
