Anyone have an idea how much parts to rebuild the hydraulic lift unit on a cub cost and how big a task it is?
Thanks

Gasket and oring kit about $40. That's the minimum you'll get by with. Any other cost will depend on what you find when you open it up.
There are a couple howto's here on the forum. Check them out. It's not too hard to do. Better set aside an afternoon for it since you've not done it before.

What symptoms are you having? If you have hydraulic fluid leaking into the crankcase (oil level rising on the dipstick) it may just need the shaft seal on the pump. If the block is full and you have no "lift" then it's probably time for a rebuild. There is also a tubular screen filter inside that costs about $60-70. It doesn't need to be replaced unless it's torn or collapsed.

Take pictures as you disassemble.
If it turns out to be the block that is bad, be sure you write down the part no. on block there are 2 or 3 different kits
Be sure to keep everything clean when you re assemble

Re: Hydraulic Lift Rebuild cost
Clean the outside of the block first. Scrub it down real well before you open it up. If you plan on painting it, I would strip the paint first, too. I used a chemical stripper and a small wire brush. There are 2 kits. The number on the block will tell you which one. If the number is not on the side of the block look inside the front where the power piston is. I ended up spending another $130 in parts above the gasket kit. The screen was torn upon removal (they are a crush fit so they all buckle) and a couple of the plastic parts inside were broken and they are not cheap, but at least they are available. The how-to is very handy, but pay attention to the text. Some of the photos are taken with the right side going into the block, others with the left first. Buy at least 6 cans of carb cleaner too. I cleaned a piston assembly, put on the O-rings and put all the parts in a plastic bag for safekeeping until I was ready to build the block. Those pistons can be a bear to get out. Be patient.
