Crank pulley Wear Sleeve Install

Postby CraigKennedy » Mon Feb 23, 2015 9:42 pm

Hey yall, I ordered my oil seal and crank pulley wear sleeve today, suppose to be in tomorrow morning. I read some where on here that the sleeve has a tapered end and flat end. Which end goes in towards the block? I was guessing the tapered end? Supposedly the wear sleeve I ordered from NAPA comes with the installation tool. I am planning on installing the sleeve on the Pulley while I am on lunch tomorrow at work, (I work at my local John Deere dealer). Thanks for pointing me in the right direction,
Craig

If it comes with the installation sleeve, one end will have a lip that the tool seats against. The lip will have a score around it. After installation, you can remove the lip with a pair of side cutters. You are correct that the taper will go towards the block to facilitate the sleeve slipping through the seal.

Yes, The seating tool rests against that lip so you can drive it onto the shaft. Here's a link to a video slide show that Raymond and I did with a differential shaft sleeve. It's a little different than what you are doing but shows one style of seating tool, the lip, and removal of the lip at the end: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=66493

When i did mine, I put the sleeve in boiing water for about 15 minutes before installing. Made a big difference to ease installation. Make sure to wear gloves though. :D
