The working surface is usually polished metal. I believe most manufacturers nowadays just paint the digging part black for shipping.

You can try a rust inhibitor if you intend to use it. Cosmoline is still available, and LPS 3 coats the surface with a waxy layer that should last the winter.

Well, I got the 193 properly attached to the Cub (with some much appreciated advice and a couple more parts from Joe Brewer at Retrorowcrop!). Got it in the ground and plowed my garden and my neighbor's plot with no problem (other than when I stopped it in the front yard to hose it off - then forgot the plow was in a down position - it nicely plowed up about 10 feet of the yard when I went to move it - oops...)

I thought I would wait until after fall plowing to repaint the plow blue, so that is the next project, probably after Christmas.

Here's a pic of the setup.

As a kid in Iowa we used gun grease on the moldboards and shears at the end of the plowing season.

Currently using left over spray can paint to coat the moldboard and shear.
I have an excuse. CRS.

New to forum. I have the same Chattanooga moldboard GP 6008. Does anyone know what replaces it. One of mine is cracked. Any help would be great.
