c-2 mower question
I finally got around to sharpening my blades and installing them. First time mowing with the newly sharpened blades, I hit a hidden rock. It still is cutting well, but it often(not always) sounds like a bunch of steel pieces being shaken in a tin bucket. Any ideas what the sound might be and if I am doing serious damage by continuing to cut grass?

Re: c-2 mower question
If this is an IH/Danco C2 might have damaged the slip clutch, it has springs and sleeves to hold the springs, remove the pulley on top of the mower spindle and you can see if they are damaged

Re: c-2 mower question
Is it possible that one of the blades swung 'away' and got jammed? Something sounds out of balance..

Re: c-2 mower question
Nope. Blades are in correct cutting position. I'll try to disassemble hub (any suggestions on that?), and see what I can see.

Re: c-2 mower question
Remove the bolt on the top of the spindle and the sheave should just lift off. Underneath, you'll find four springs and pins for the overrunning clutch. When you lift off the sheave be careful, as the pins/springs will drop out.

Re: c-2 mower question
Check the cast flanges that hold the spindle housing to the main deck. You may have cracked onne or more or the ears.
