New addition from Missouri

Postby Barnyard » Mon Sep 14, 2015 10:31 am

Back in April Stanton posted a Cub for sale in the vine. He said if I bought it I could leave it there until I passed through on my way to the RMCF. I took him up on the offer. I picked it up Wednesday afternoon and headed on to the CubFest. When we got to Bob's the next day and unloaded, Rosie found a battery cable end on the trailer. It had fallen off the Cub so I tightened it down good. I tried to start it but it just turned over but wouldn't start. I pulled the hood and we cleaned the plugs and did a dry compression test. We had 85 lbs on three cylinders and 90 lbs on the fourth. When we cranked it it sputtered a lot. Finally it started but only ran about 30 seconds. It sounded like a fuel problem so I put on a rebuilt carb I brought along. We still had some issues so Bob suggested it might be the coil since he detected a weak spark. It was close to dinner so we all quit for the day. Friday morning I replaced the mag with a known good one I also brought with me. It wasn't long and we had it purring like a kitten. Once we Timed the carb to the governor it sounded real good.

A big thanks to all who helped in some way with advice and hands on work. Another thanks to Dale Finch for taking the video through out the day, even though there may have been a few things I had to edit out. But hey, we had some laughs doing it!

I just need to address that smoking issue. Seafoam and a work out with some sort of implement are next.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

That Cub was so good keeping insects away!

So glad to see (and hear) Gene running again! Feel free to rename it whatever you'd like, it's your Cub.

Thanks for sharing your success!
