The future of Cubfest.com

Postby lildog » Wed Aug 17, 2005 7:38 pm

Bigdog and I have been kicking around ideas for what to do with Cubfest.com now that our event has come and gone. Watching recent threads, it's obvious that the Cubfest Phenomenon is catching on. So what I'd like to do is turn Cubfest.com into a portal of sorts for organizing and publicizing future fests. Primarily, I'd like to use it for two purposes:

  • Listing and presenting information for upcoming fests (like Northeast and Southwest), such as date, location, schedule links, etc.
  • Providing tips and how-to's to help people plan their fests, building on others' experiences.

My initial thoughts are to include a list of tips, a q&a section and possibly a checklist. Also, a form to allow people to submit info about their events. Plus, we can post pics and comments for fest hosts who don't have their own sites.

I guess I'm interested in hearing what you guys think of this approach? Do you think this is doable? Can I count on you guys for support and helping me develop material?

Check out what I've done so far at http://www.cubfest.com

Sounds like a good idea to me. I wouldn't expect it to be a high traffic site, but serve as a central point for information on upcoming Cubfests. The checklists and information on past events will be of real value for anyone planning an event.

LilDog:

I think anything you can do to help others put together a CubFest of any type from a small half dozen people bring your own dinner type event to a big do like we have seen in the past is an excellent idea.

I really like the idea about the following:

How to Organize a CubFest
How to Advertise a CubFest
How to Get Cut Rate Accomodations at area inn's and hotels
How to Setup Seminars etc.,

FAQ's or Q&S's are an excellent idea
A Checklist of things to do is also great

A section on whether or not to include say a Church Dinner/on site BBQ or some other type eats topic would be helpful to I would think.

I would be happy to help out with input on our experiences with CubFest NorthEast 2004 if that would be of some use, and I know that CubFest 2005 will provide lots of useful knowledge to share..

Excellent Idea... I hope it happens. I like what you have done so far....

John,

It looks great... just as I would expect. I especially like the heading "Part tractor show, part family reunion". That sums it up very well.

I'm pleased that there are other events in the planning stage, and hope your site will encourage others to do the same in their area. The more events the better!

Maybe your Dad and Janet can persuade you and Cindy to drop in for a visit at Portland? The Portland gang is also like an extended family. :D

Great idea. I think the site looks great. The dates for Cubfest Northeast are October 13,14,15. Pris and I are really looking forward to seeing you all in June. How about a list of hotels so I can get the reservations made. Not that I am excited or anything.

Ditto to Donny's comments
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

LilDog...You and your Dad have put together a TERRIFFIC web site in Cubfest.Com! :D

Your idea to use it as a "portal" is GREAT for ALL future CubFests! Now ALL of us will be able to have a site where we can see, through posted photos and videos, all the Cubfests regardless of what part of the country they occured in! 8)

I for one, am really excited to hear about MANY, more localized "CubFests" (not to take anything away from you and your Dad, or Jamie or John). :D This will easily make MORE options available to MORE Cubbers, regardless of where they're located! With the ever increasing costs of travel...THAT just makes MORE SENSE to an old Geezer like me! KEEP UP THE GREAT IDEAS GUYS! :D
