Hydraulic lift issues

Postby FireEmtDave » Mon Dec 12, 2016 9:42 pm

Hello, I've done some reading but can't really come to a conclusion on my issue. The lift is slow to react and sometimes barely lifts the front blade off the ground. Other times it goes up fine. some issue lowering it, so to react. I've checked the fluid and it was fine. The Cub has been recently passed down from my grandfather, who's father bought it new. :D I an in Michigan, Cub came from Alabama, It had a little during the summer but it seems like the cold weather is making it worse, like thick fluid. Possibility that it needs changed or issue with touch control? Thanks for any help and advice.

Since you don't know what hydraulic fluid is currently in the Cub, I would start by draining it and replacing with CaseIH Hy-Tran Ultra. Your local dealer is...

Hi,
It says in your info that you have a 154 LoBoy, this is the Farmall Cub area for posts. If you have a 154 LoBoy, you should ask in that part of the website.
Here is info for a Farmall Cub, from a Farmall Cub owner's manual. Be sure to do what it says in paragraph 4 to get the air out of the system. Nowadays the fluid is called Hy-Tran, like Don said above.
Check the fluid only with the arms in the rear, or down position. :)

Glen is correct in that we need to identify which model you have, a "number cub" (154, 185, 184) or a Lo-Boy. The hydraulic systems are entirely different, thus the trouble shooting/solution to your problem will be different.

I see that Dave hasn't been back on to clarify this. However, he has had the 154 for a half dozen years and this tractor is "recently passed down" to him. I'm guessing this one is a Farmall and he is dealing with a Touch-Control system. I think Don's suggestion of a complete fluid change is the right first step. The symptoms seem to match up with a sticky but not stuck pressure control valve.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I will be trying to change the fluid as so as I can get to the dealer. Yes this is a Farmall Cub. I just haven't updated my tractor list. But thanks for looking out. I'll update once I have the fluid changed.

Well changed and working fine now. Fluid was low. Where would it be leaking at? I haven't noticed any leaks. Thanks for your help.

Seal (o-ring) on the pump shaft could be letting it leak into the engine oil. See if the engine oil level is increasing.

Checked today. Oil level is a little above full. There's a fluid leak on the hydraulic "box". Looks to becoming from the lines coming from the pump. Thinking of just getting a gasket and seal kit for it.
