Farmall Cub Touch Control fluid

Postby Farmall Dave » Tue Feb 14, 2017 11:28 am

I have a 1958 Farmall Cub. I live a long ways away from any tractor store, and am in need of hydraulic fluid. What kind of hydraulic fluid do I use for the Touch Control unit on my Cub? Do I use a specialty fluid or simply any type of hydraulic fluid?

You can use any universal hydraulic fluid, as long as it's MS1207 or MS1209 compliant.

If you're ever over in Norco, CA, stop in at the Tractor Supply Co (TSC) and pick up their Traveler brand hydraulic fluid, I believe it meets the compliant numbers given by Don above.

Placentia, CA to Norco, CA estimated 48 minutes per Google maps.

Yes, what the other guys posted. Hy-Tran is the current replacement for Touch-Control fluid from CaseIH. Many places (Tractor Supply included) have 2 grades of hydraulic fluid. The cheaper grade usually just says "Hydraulic fluid" on the can, few if any specs listed. Then the second grade has specs listed and usually says "Hy-Tran compatible" or similar on the can. Use the better grade.

Hit your local yellow pages a little harder. You probably have multiple sources nearby.

You have a CaseIH dealer 26 miles away in LaVerne.

Hydraulic fluid is available at auto parts stores, hardware stores, and farm and ranch supply stores.

You need to read the container label to make sure it's hy-tran compatible.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Hydraulic fluid is nothing to cheap out on. The water holding characteristics of a good oil are much better than the cheaper ones. A bit of condensation in a cheap oil turns into a milky foamy mess. Don't ask how I know

Hi,
Welcome to the website. If you are changing the fluid, you need to remove the air from the system after refilling it.
Here is a page from the Cub owner's manual telling how to drain and refill the system. Be sure to do what it says in paragraph 4 to remove the air. :)

Do any of you know if John Deere Low viscosity hy-gard would work. That way I wouldn't have to worry about contamination if I use a dump wagon between my cub and JD 955.

If you scroll down on your link, it says that it is compatible for Case applications requiring MS 1207 or MS 1209.

Yeah. I saw that afterwards. Once I overhaul the tough control unit I'll fill it back up with low hy-gard.

I too don't have a dealer near me. I just use NAPA brand fluid. Like the other posts have said, just make sure it says it's compatible.
