cub stalls after 5 to ten min
HI thanks for any responses given. My 62 lowboy starts and res fine for 5 to ten minutes idling then stalls. Gas flow into carb seems fine carb recently cleaned. anything else i should check. Would a mis adjusted float cause this? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. thanks Chuck

Re: cub stalls after 5 to ten min
Check the fuel flow volume at the carb drain point for a full flow, steady stream for about a quart to 1/2 gal in a clean container. If it slows or stops you have a restriction between the carb and the tank outlet. If this in inconclulive you might have a sticking float/needle valve. Does the carb have any visible signs of deformity from someone hitting it?

Re: cub stalls after 5 to ten min
If carb float was adjusted prior to cutting out it would be more suspect.
If the tractor ran fine prior with float where it is set now...debris or deposits might be suspect. A flexible fuel line can kink or collapse with a draw on it too.
Ignition component testing would follow if fuel delivery is good.
Any greater heat build up compared to before?

Re: cub stalls after 5 to ten min
Hi,
If you can't find anything wrong with the fuel system, you could check the spark when the engine quits, it should have a blue spark.
The post below tells how to check the spark, and replace the coil, if it is bad. I wrote 2 posts in it telling how to fix it.
The condenser can go bad too and cause the engine to stop. The points have to be good too.
It could be a loose wire, or corroded wire end, or the ignition switch can be bad too.
When it quits running, you could check the voltage from the ignition switch at the coil, and see if it is getting full battery voltage there, if it's a Battery Ignition Unit.

Hook up you timing light. Run engine until it quits. Immediately check for spark.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: cub stalls after 5 to ten min
Does it stall out sooner at a fast idle? Mine would run perfectly at a low idle and then stall out when it got under a load, or when I ran it at a really fast idle. It turned out to be a partially clogged fuel shutoff valve at the sediment bowl. I replaced the bowl assembly, and it ran like a new one. Still does!

Next time it stalls check to see if the coil is hot (as in too warm to put your hand on it ) that may indicate that is is breaking down on the internally.

Re: cub stalls after 5 to ten min
WOW thanks for all the good advise. I will take a look at it as soon as i can. But today Ive got to get lawn mowed before it turns into a hay field. Todays the first day without rain in a week and next three day it going to rain again. To make things worse I took the tires off the mower to put new tubes in and misplaced one of them. My wife thinks its pretty funny, but its driving me crazy I had painted the rim and moved it so it would be safe from the rain. This getting old is getting old real fast!

Re: cub stalls after 5 to ten min
Well again thanks for the advise. I haven't got to the lowboy yet but I finally solved the missing lawn mower rim and wheel mystery. I had moved under my carport when began to rain to keep the fresh paint from being spotted. Once I put it there I moved to a safer spot on my 1950 cub seat. When I searching for I was looking for the bright yellow but I laid it down and all that visible was the black tire. Heres how I found it, I was going to take the cub ride around the yard to look for it, turned the gas on started to get on but something was on the seat. Finally found it after putting tubes in and remounting on the mower mowed tie dark, the grass was getting ready to baled. Again thanks
