If it's more than just cleaning out the bowl, the entire air cleaner assembly is pretty easy to completely remove from the tractor. A wash down with some kerosene, a trip through a parts washer, or blast with a pressure washer is all that is needed.

take the cup off the bottom clean out refill with oil to the marks on cup. The main part on top is a pain to do. See if just the oil does the trick.

You could also have a piece of trash in your carb. I'm not saying your oil bath isn't dirty but it could be trash, doesn't take much.

thank you all for quick responce.i will take your advice and clean it and see if it helps.the carb seems to be clean,i removed the drain plug and replaced with a clear plastic tube to check float valve and show level of fuel in carb.fuel level stay's full at idel and wide open throttle, but as soon as the breather hose is connected to carb fuel level drop's and engine stops or choke's.now to add to the mystery this did not happen when the other carb was on.i have two carburators.the first one is the one that when plowing will quit and with the rebuilt one dies when breather tube is connected.thanks again

Hi,
Here are pages from the Cub owner's manual telling about cleaning the air cleaner.
It is held on the engine by 2 bolts. Be sure to clean out the pipe that goes down through the center of it.
I use thin motor oil in mine, they have discussed on here that too thick an oil can make it hard to start in cold weather. :)
